Ca’ Foscari University of Venice will host the press conference presenting the exhibition “The world of Han Meilin” on 27 October. It is the first time that the works of Han Meilin, the only Chinese artist to be designated “UNESCO Artist for Peace”, will be exhibited abroad. The initiative was promoted by Ca’ Foscari University, the Venice International University, whose president is Ambassador Umberto Vattani, the Han Meilin Foundation and the China Italy Dialogue Association. The exhibition is sponsored by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, the Foreign Ministry and the Municipality of Venice.
There are very many reasons why Han Meilin was designated a UNESCO Artist for Peace, in “recognition for his ability to educate young people to the values of peace and solidarity, his teaching of art subjects at the prestigious Tsingha University, and his personal commitment to protect nature and the environment,” said Mr Vattani, curator of the exhibition together with professor Zhao Li. Ambassador Vattani added: “It is important to remember that the Chinese government has dedicated three large museums to him in Beijing, Hangzhou and Yinchuan.” The Chinese painter, sculptor and designer Han Meilin will attend the press conference together with Michele Bugliesi, rector of Ca’Foscari University, Ambassador Vattani and professor Zhao.
