Italian Economic Diplomacy – Russia: Italian business mission to Kaluga

An Italian business mission to the Russian region of Kaluga took place on 15 and 16 November. The Italian Embassy in the Russian Federation, the ICE-Italian Trade Agency, the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) in Moscow, the Russian-Italian Chamber of Commerce, Italy’s entrepreneurial associations operating in the Russian Federation (Confindustria Russia, and GIM-Unimpresa), and 25 Italian companies operating in Russia participated in the mission.
A hundred kilometres south-west of the Federation’s capital and connected to it via several highways and railway links on the Moscow-Kiev route, Kaluga is one of Russia’s more developed regions in terms of per capita income, investment volume and industrial growth. It has always ranked very high among the areas most favourable for business in Russia. Several Italian companies have plants operating in the region. The agrifood, machinery, especially for food production and food processing, and chemical and pharmaceutical sectors are the areas of activity that Kaluga views as high-priority.  Kaluga’s regional authorities submitted several investment projects to ICE Moscow office, which selected three to be presented to Italian counterparts and namely: two projects regarding the agri-food sector and one centred on the building material industry, for a comprehensive value of 200 million euros. They will be presented to Italian companies together with projects submitted by other Russian regions, on the occasion of a roadshow that will travel to Venice, Modena and Turin from 28 to 30 November.
