In 1902 many Italians took off to look for a better life in America, and they included Giuseppe, 21, the eldest child of a peasant’s family from the Aspromonte. He left everything behind and traveled across the ocean, but promised to comeback. He is the main character of “La signora di Ellis Island” [The lady from Ellis Island], a book by Mimmo Cangemi. The author will present it on February 7 at the Italian Cultural Institute in Vienna. He was born in Santa Cristina d’Aspromonte in 1950, and is an engineer. He published, with Einaudi Stile Libero, Il giudice meschino [The mean judge] in 2009, and La Signora di Ellis Island in 2011.
