The successes and challenges of the European integration process were at the centre of a seminar organised on 22nd March at the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in Riyadh, together with the European Union Delegation, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome.
Italian Ambassador Luca Ferrari, who attended the event with the representatives of the other founding countries, highlighted the benefits of the European integration process and the commitment to building a stronger, more prosperous and supportive Europe.
The European Union’s experience is of great interest to the Gulf Cooperation Council, a regional organisation founded in 1981 with the aim of strengthening cooperation between countries in the area. The seminar, which included speeches by Prof. Hartmut Mayer of John Hopkins University in Bologna, Prof. Pasquale Borea of the Royal University for Women in Bahrain and Prof. John Sfakinakis of the Gulf Research Centre, was an important opportunity to deepen relations between the EU and the GCC.
