On 20 and 21April the Farnesina will host two important events associated with the Italian Presidency of the G7: the Civil 7 and the G7 Workshop on Marine Litter.
The Civil 7 (C7) is the meeting traditionally held between civil society organisations and the representatives of the Government hosting the G7 with the aim of assuring the hand-over of the positions and recommendations of civil society representatives to the Country holding the presidency of the G7. The event is organised by the Global Coalition Against Poverty (GCAP), a network grouping more than 30 Italian and international organisations, associations and civil society movements. The meeting is to be attended by Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Benedetto Della Vedova.
The G7 Workshop on Marine Litter was attended by the Minister of the Environment Gian Luca Galletti and focused on the implementation of the G7 Action Plan on Marine Litter in view of the G7 Environment Ministers Meeting scheduled to be held in Bologna next 11 and 12 June. The presence of plastic waste at sea undermines maritime ecosystems and the biodiversity of Oceans. Italy has always been strongly committed to curtailing this phenomenon: it has banned the use of disposable plastic bags and has gladly joined the International Coalition to reduce plastic marine pollution from single-use plastics launched by France. After his speech, Minister Galletti handed over to the UNEP/MAP representative, Gaetano Leone, a letter addressed to the Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme in which Italy confirms its adhesion to the “Clean Seas” campaign.
