Today marks the end of the 7th edition of the Olympics in the Italian Language, the event targeting secondary school students organised by the Ministry of Education, University and Research in conjunction with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), which manages the participation of Italian schools abroad. In representation of the latter, 436 students from 22 secondary schools grappled with several online tests in an effort to prove their knowledge of the Italian language and literature. The finalists admitted to the Turin contest are four: two from Athens, one from Casablanca and one from Paris. The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the MAECI and fell within the scope of a broader initiative to promote the Italian language entitled “Giornate della lingua italiana” (“Italian Language Days”), dedicated to the figure of Prof Tullio De Mauro, who recently passed away. Thanks to its participation in the Olympics in the Italian Language, the Italian school system abroad has once again shown its vitality and role as an integral part of the network that every day promotes the Italian language and culture around the world.
