“FOOTure 4.0”: A Strategic Programme for the Portuguese Footwear Industry

The Portuguese footwear industry has planned to invest 50 million euros in the FOOTure 4.0 strategic programme. Over the next ten years, the objective they want to achieve is that of making a qualitative progress in the internationalization of the sector, by offering sophisticated products and increasing the quality of both production processes and services. In order to consolidate its positioning on the international market, the industry will have to put its stakes on differentiation, flexibility, quick response time and product quality, in order to become competitive and outperform its competition and create a closer relationship with its customers.

Of the forecast 50 million euro investment in the FOOTure 4.0 programme up to 2020, 12 million have already been allocated, and approximately half of this amount is invested through the Famest project (Footwear, Advanced Materials, Equipment and Software Technologies) of the Footwear Technology Centre of Portugal.
