Minister Alfano met the U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on the sidelines of the meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Brussels. Minister Alfano reaffirmed the centrality of the traditional relations between Italy and the United States of America.
The meeting focused on NATO-Russia relations, defence spending and Iran, and also the latest developments in the Korean dossier.
“Today’s meeting between North and South Korean leaders represents an encouraging sign of detente, which I trust will be followed by more concrete progress,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano.
“I sincerely hope that, thanks to Washington’s strong impulse and leadership, and the determination of the international community as a whole, this will be a real step forward towards the goal of a complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.”
