European Investment Bank finances the ports of Rome and Lazio
The European Investment Bank (EIB) is going to finance projects to expand the port of Civitavecchia and to create of a new commercial port in Fiumicino with 195 million euros.
It is the EIB’s largest financing of a Port System Authority in the last few years.
The project involves the construction of large infrastructure, including the construction of a large dockyard for fishing boats and the first construction phase of a new commercial port for passenger ferry boats and even luxury liners. This important infrastructure project will have a positive impact on the competitiveness of the logistics of the area, equipping it with ports fit to meet local commercial, industrial and tourist needs.
It is an important achievement which resulted from the effective good offices of the Italian Permanent Mission to the European Union in the resolution of the European Commission’s infringement procedure that had suspended the dossier for the financing for years.
