Italian Economic Diplomacy 18 January: latest global news

JAPAN – Seminar on the Economic Partnership Agreement with the European Union

On 25 January, the Emilia Romagna Region will host a seminar in Bologna – organised in association with the Italian-Japan Foundation – on the Japan-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) signed on 17 July 2017 and scheduled to enter into effect on 1 February 2019. The main priority set out in the Agreement is the reduction or elimination of customs tariffs on a list of set products to reduce the costs of commercial trading for all parties involved, mainly to the benefit of small and medium-sized enterprises.  The parties subsequently undertook to enter into a strategic partnership agreement that will deal with matters like climate change, environmental protection and security policies. The EPA will therefore open up new development opportunities in the strategies shared by the two economic powerhouses to promote economic growth and global wellbeing. At the meeting, Deputy Chief Negotiator for the EU, Marco Chirullo, will present the new prospects that will open by signing the economic agreement and the business and investment opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises. The meeting will also present the initiatives that will focus on the commodity sector in 2019.
