Gabon: EN.IT Group signs contract for two photovoltaic power stations

The EN.IT Group, which has headquarters in London and an Italian branch in Rome, designs renewable energy projects, including photovoltaic, wind and biomass, and has recently setup a company in Gabon.

The company was established after it signed a 20 year B.O.T. (Build-Operate-Transfer) contract with the Gabon Ministry of Energy to build two solar parks: one on the outskirts of Libreville, with a capacity of 50MW, and one in Mouila capital of the Ngounie’ Province, about 400 km from Libreville, with a capacity of 10MW.

The investment, estimated at 55-60 million euros, will be covered by private loans that the company raises on international markets. Under the umbrella of the Ministry of Energy, a contract is expected to be signed in March with the local Société d’Energie et d’Eau du Gabon (Seeg) to sell the electricity, which would reach customers through existing sub-station transmission lines.

The power will be produced by a fixed solar panel system controlled by drones which will identify any malfunctions. Once an environmental impact study has been completed work should start in September this year. The two power stations are scheduled to begin operation by July 2020.
