The Italian Cultural Institute in Tokyo organized a conference on the life, art and science of Leonardo da Vinci, on the occasion of the International Research Day.
Daniele Macuglia, historian and researcher at the University of Chicago and an expert in all matters related to Leonardo, was invited to speak about this eclectic and versatile genius, artist, inventor and scientist, and beacon of the Italian Renaissance. In order to enable people to better understand this genius of the Renaissance who fully embodied the spirit of his era, Macuglia explored the artist’s childhood, focusing in particular on his education.
After also offering an overview of Leonardo as an adult, Macuglia reviewed three of Leonardo’s best-known works with the aid of slides: Lady with an Ermine (currently at the National Museum in Krakow), The Last Supper (Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan) and Mona Lisa (Louvre Museum, Paris), creating interesting links with Leonardo’s anatomy and geometry interests.
