The Foreign Ministry affords protection to refugees displaced to Burkina Faso

Italy allocates a million euros to improve the living conditions of the refugees, mostly Mali, displaced to Burkina Faso. The donation was drawn from the Africa Fund and is earmarked for a project run by the UNHCR.

The aim of the project is firstly to provide support to the local Authorities so that they can issue ID documents to approximately 30,000 people, giving them access to essential services, and secondly to provide assistance to at least 7,000 people by setting up dwelling units, adjusted to local conditions, that are alternative to camps.

To this end, an ad hoc technical agreement was closed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAECI) and the UNHCR signed by Luigi Maria Vignali, the Director General for Italians Abroad and Migration policies of the MAECI and Dominique Isabelle Hyde, UNHCR Director of External Relations.
