Tel Aviv: art and design on show at the Italian Ambassador’s Residence

The Residence of the Italian Ambassador in Israel opens its doors to the public for a series of guided tours through the collection of artworks, design objects and furnishings decorating the residence, organised as part of the programmes for Contemporary Art Day. The event, promoted by Ambassador Gianluigi Benedetti, will offer the opportunity to visit the collection hosted in the Residence, which includes the work of Italian and Israeli artists and designers exhibiting in the most prestigious museums worldwide. The works will be illustrated by the curator of the exhibition, contemporary art critic and expert Ermanno Tedeschi, with the attendance of Italian artist Lello Esposito who authored some of the collection’s most iconic works and who has spent more than 30 years focusing his work on the city of Naples and its symbols. For this occasion, Lello Esposito has made a painting dedicated to Naples on a wall of the Residence’s entrance hall. In addition to the collection of art and design objects, the exhibition will also display jewels by some Italian artists, full-fledged wearable artworks on loan from the Babs Art Gallery of Milan.

Ever since the 1980s, the Residence of the Italian Ambassador in Israel is in one of the historical villas of the famous Tel Biniamin district in Ramat Gan, whose establishment and development have been indissolubly tied to the history of Tel Aviv, and which features houses designed by important 20th century European architects.
