‘150 years from Suez. Past and future of the Canal that changed the face of global trade’

On Friday, 8 November, the Egyptian Academy in Rome will host the conference: “150 years from Suez. Past and future of the Canal that changed the face of global trade”. The event, organised by the Polikòs Association together with the Egyptian Embassy in Italy, will be attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Joint Italian Arab Chamber of Commerce, Assarmatori and the Istituto Affari Internazionali.

The Conference will survey the multifaceted importance of the Canal: from the strategic role of global trade to the Euro-Mediterranean challenges in the logistics sector to interconnect the Countries of Europe and of the MENA Area to the rich Far East markets, leveraging on the centrality of the Canal in the international projection of the image of Egypt and on the historic relationship between Rome and Cairo.

In parallel to the event, the Academy will also host the photographic exhibition titled “Europe and the Suez Canal. Italy’s contribution to its construction 1859-1869”, curated by Giovanni Cipriani, Founder and Secretary General of the Centro per la Promozione del Libro.
