Italy’s Economic Diplomacy, 4 December: latest news from the world

BULGARIA – STUDIO FUKSAS ASSIGNED THE RENOVATION OF SVETA NEDELYA SQUARE

The Fuksas Architecture Firm won the call for bids launched by the Municipality of Sofia to renovate and upgrade Sveta Nedelya Square in the capital’s city centre. The project is comprehensively worth 9 million euros. Fourteen international architecture firms participated in the tender and, following a selection process, the jury deemed the project presented by Fuksas to be the best structured and the most innovative for the urban centre. More specifically, in redesigning the liveability of the area concerned, it also envisaged increasing the pedestrian areas and upgrading the existing ones. The project will be highly visible thanks to its strong impact on the urban furniture and the city’s roadworks. In this sense, the selection of the Italian project constitutes an evident preference for solutions and sensitivities based on sustainability, which are characteristic of the Fuksas Architecture Firm. Works are forecast to begin in 2021 and finalise in approximately 24 months.
