Italian Economic Diplomacy 11 November: latest news from around the world

How to do business with the United Nations – 26 November 2020

How to access tender procedures for services and supplies launched by United Nations Agencies: this will be the focus of the Virtual Seminar organised by the “United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC)”, to be held on 26 November 2020 starting from 9.00 a.m.

The United Nations logistics base (UNGSC) in Brindisi is one of the main centres for the supply of logistic services, information technologies, telecommunications, and training to the UNO Secretariat, peace missions, and the various United Nations assistance programmes around the world.

As all agencies in the UN system, the UNGSC is also an important buying centre that faces ever more pressing needs for supplies associated with goods and services. Last year, the volume of business done by the UN Agency system grew by 5,9% compared to 2018, and stood at USD 19,9 billion, of which only $ 323 million was spent on supplies by Italian companies. With a share of 1,62%, our Country is the 14th largest supplier in terms of UN procurement. As regards only the UNSGC in Brindisi, Italy’s share of the contracts awarded by the Agency has followed a growth trend over the last three years, thanks to acquiring a 25,1% stake in all purchases made by the office in Puglia.

In terms of this great potential, Italy’s quota of United Nations procurements still falls short of its potential. One of the reasons for this weakness is a lack of knowledge of the mechanisms and procedures for taking part in contracts launched by the UN system, and made available via the UNGM (United Nations Global MarketPlace) portal.

The Seminar will be opened by the Deputy Foreign Minister, Manlio Di Stefano and UNSGC Director, Giovanna Ceglie. Heads of the buying offices for the main Agencies at the UN’s Rome centre (World Food Program, IFAD, FAO, etc.) will also be taking part. The programme will be broken down into 3 sessions: the first will deal with functioning of the UNGM (United Nations Global Marketplace) portal, the access point to tenders published by the UN Agency. This will be followed by a more in-depth look at the procedures applied by the buying office in Brindisi and how to submit offers correctly. Finally, the third session will be set aside for meetings (by request) between Italian companies and personnel from the UNGSC buying office.

To take part in the event participants must register by not later than 17 November this year following the registration procedures indicated via the link:
