The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, is in Brussels today to attend the meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.
The 27 Foreign Affairs Ministers will first discuss the latest developments on the tensions on the border between Ukraine and Russia and will hold a more general discussion on the European security situation. Ministers are also scheduled to hold an informal exchange with the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba.
Ministers will then move to the issue of the fight against climate change and climate diplomacy, with a focus on new climate actions as part of the EU external relations, and will discuss in detail the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The 27 EU Foreign Affairs Ministers are also scheduled to meet their counterparts of the Gulf countries on the occasion of the joint council of the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Following, under “current affairs”, the Council will discuss the latest developments in Mali and will provide updates on the ongoing negotiations in Vienna on the nuclear deal with Iran.
Lastly, Ministers will carry out a cybersecurity exercise to test the response to a possible large-scale cyber-attack against the EU and its Member States.
