Minister Luigi Di Maio’s mission to Romania and the Republic of Moldova

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, will be traveling to Romania and Moldova, the two bordering countries with Ukraine which are receiving the largest number of refugees escaping from the war.

In Romania, Minister Di Maio is scheduled to meet with the President of the Republic, Klaus Iohannis, Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca and Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu to whom he intends to reaffirm the importance that Italy attaches to the issue of migration. The visit will also offer the opportunity to confirm the excellent level of bilateral relations, which Italy considers to be of strategic importance both politically and economically, as Italy is Romania’s first-ranking investor Country in number of companies and its second-largest trade partner.

In Moldova, Minister Di Maio will meet with the President of the Republic, Maia Sandu, Prime Minister, Natalia Gavrilita, and Foreign Minister Nicolae Popescu, to whom he intends to express Italy’s solidarity for the exceptional effort that Moldova is making to assure a safe shelter to Ukrainian citizens fleeing from the war. During his visit, Di Maio will also sign a joint declaration with Minister Popescu on cooperating in providing assistance to refugees.
