Speaking at the urgent debate of the United Nations Human Rights Council on the situation in Ukraine, Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Benedetto Della Vedova, once again confirmed, with the utmost firmness, that Italy condemns the Russian Federation’s unjustified and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.
“We have supported Ukraine’s initiative, which called for an urgent debate to address the conflict’s devastating impact on human rights, as highlighted by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.” – the Undersecretary said – “This Council cannot shirk its responsibilities and must take action to identify the perpetrators of the violations and abuses of human rights being committed: for this reason, we support the establishment of a Commission of Inquiry.”
“We stand by the Ukrainian people and urge the Russian Federation to fully comply with its obligations related to human rights and international humanitarian law, to immediately cease all military actions and to allow full, safe and unfettered humanitarian access.”, Della Vedova concluded.
