Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, chairs the Conference of Italian Missionaries, an event introduced by the reading of a message from the Holy Father. The Conference (“Training for development in Africa: the role played by Missions”) will deal with the contribution provided by missionaries and mission societies to the sustainable development of the populations they serve, highlighting the impact of their work through the sharing of success stories and good practices. The event will focus on strengthening education and training opportunities in sub-Saharan Africa for young people, also considering the links with the Mattei Plan and the migration-development nexus.

The programme includes a round-table discussion with the participation of Mgr. Antonio D’Angelo, Archbishop of L’Aquila; Mgr. Emilio Nappa, President of the Pontifical Mission Societies; Mgr. Dario Viganò, Vice Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences; Father Giulio Albanese, journalist and Combonian missionary; Prof. Shahid Mobeen, President of the Council for Religious Freedom. The round-table discussion will be followed by some testimonies of missionaries and mission societies in Africa.
