Within the framework of the Munich Security Conference, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, ratified a set of agreements with which our Country will support the Ukrainian energy sector.
The Deputy Prime Minister said: “Italy has supported Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian aggression and today we restate our willingness to help our Ukrainian friends in the strategic energy sector. This support will be further fostered by the Italian G7 Presidency, which will maintain the focus on Ukraine also during the Ukraine Recovery Conference to be hosted by Italy in 2025”.
The agreements ratified today by Minister Tajani, the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, and the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Odile Renaud-Basso, define the terms for a subsidised rate loan of EUR 100 million taken from the resources of the Rotating Fund for Development Cooperation managed by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP). With these funds, Italy will support Ukrhydroenergo, the main Ukrainian hydro-electric company. The Italian credit will constitute an integral part of a 200 million-EUR plan, the remaining EUR 100 million will be funded by EBRD, devoted to the Ukrainian state-owned company.
Moreover, Minister Tajani and the EBRD President Renaud-Basso ratified a framework agreement for the realisation of new initiatives in areas of common interest, including African countries, where EBRD plans to extend its operations. Such an agreement will serve as a model for other similar partnerships with international financial institutions, in line with the Mattei Plan.
