Minister Terzi meets with new FAO Director General José Graziano da Silva

Minister for Foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi received new FAO Director General José Graziano da Silva at the foreign ministry in Rome today.
The meeting offered an opportunity to review concerns such as food security and price increases. The minister underscored Italy’s “preferred relationship” with the nucleus of United Nations agencies headquartered in Rome, FAO in particular, and its strategic importance. Italy’s support for FAO was “fully reciprocated” by Graziano, who expressed his deep appreciation to Minister Terzi for the role Italy continues to play despite tightened budgetary constraints, and the hope that Italy would serve as an example to other countries.Terzi assured Italy’s continued commitment, including financial pledges, to promoting the reinforcement and the reform of the UN system, especially regarding improving operational efficiency and simplifying procedures.
