“This is terrible news. It merits the strongest condemnation and is a cause of great indignation”. These were Minister Terzi’s words on hearing of the killing of journalists Remi Ochlik and Marie Colvin in Homs.
“This brutality is made all the more intolerable by the fact that the victims are two journalists bearing witness, in person, to the horrors of the repression in Syria”, continued Terzi. He expressed his “sincere and heartfelt sympathy” for the families of the two reporters.
“This dramatic episode demonstrates that the international community must take cohesive and effective action, without delay, to bring an end to the violence and start a political process that opens up concrete prospects for a peaceful and democratic transition”. Terzi concluded: “I am confident that the meeting of the Friends of Syria taking place in Tunis on Friday 24 February will pave the way for decisive progress in this direction”.
