On Minister Giulio Terzi’s instructions, Secretary-General Giampiero Massolo conveyed the Italian government’s deep concern to the Indian chargé d’affaires in Rome, Saurabh Kumar, over the Kollam court’s decision to place Marshall Massimiliano Latorre and Sergeant Salvatore Girone under the custody of the Trivandrum prison, effective immediately.
Defining such measures as unacceptable, considering the status of our two servicemen, and underscoring the extreme sensitivity of the question for the Italian authorities, for the men’s families and for the Italian public and parliament, Ambassador Massolo reiterated the firm demand that every effort be made to promptly secure safe living conditions for these servicemen.
