In the wake of the horrifying massacre of unarmed civilians in the Syrian city of Houla, Minister for Foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi has been in contact with European and regional partners most closely concerned with the Syrian crisis, with which he will be discussing the latest dramatic developments in the margins of the International conference on Somalia set to open in Istanbul on Thurdsay 31 May.

The minister’s intense diplomatic activity of recent hoursfollows close on his meeting last Tuesday in New York with UNSG Ban Ki-moon.

This afternoon Minister Terzi also gave instructions to the Italian permanent mission to the UN to actively support the proposal to convene an urgent meeting of the Security Council.
