Upon receiving the news of today’s attack against an auto convoy escorting ANSA news agency reporter Claudio Accogli in an area south of Damascus, Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi contacted ANSA President Giulio Anselmi to express “solidarity in the face of a vile attack made all the more serious for its having been directed against those working courageously on the ground to tell the story of the Syrian people’s tragedy”.
Minister Terzi voiced his “profound sympathy” for the loss of human life as a result of this “unacceptable act of violence” and urged the European Union Delegation in Damascus to lodge a firm protest with the Syrian authorities, who are responsible for ensuring the security and safety of journalists present in their country.
