On September 25, 2026, the Embassy of Italy in Washington opened the exhibition “Art and Life in Imperial Rome. Trajan and His Times,” a collection of Roman statues and frescoes dedicated to Emperor Trajan.
Supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and held under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture – in collaboration with the National Italian American Foundation – this project features significant loans from the National Archaeological Museum of Naples (MANN).
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Secretary General Ambassador Riccardo Guariglia and Deputy Secretary of State Michael Rigas, alongside other prominent representatives from the Administration, cultural institutions, the diplomatic corps, and the Italian and Italian-American communities. The event highlighted the profound symbolic significance of the statue “Trajan from Minturno” – on loan from MANN and positioned in the centre of the Embassy’s atrium – set within the contemporary framework designed by Architect Piero Sartogo.
The exhibition, which runs until January 31, 2027, marks the culmination of a series of initiatives launched to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence.
