Deputy Foreign Minister Bruno Archi met today in Rome with the Indonesian Minister for Tourism, Mrs. Mari Elka Pangestu, who is also Commissioner General for Indonesia’s participation in the 2015 Milan EXPO. Their friendly discussions touched on prospects for Indonesia’s involvement in the EXPO, as well as areas of common interest in enhancing the promotion of Indonesia in Italy during the 6 month duration of the event.
Archi also pointed out to Minister Pangestu the excellent status of relations between Italy and Indonesia, a member of the G20 and principal Southeast Asian economy, as well as a model for moderate Muslim countries, with the largest Islamic community in the world. “Indonesia”, the Deputy Minister explained, “is one of Italy’s priority partners on that continent, and that is why I decided to stop in Indonesia on my first Asian mission next week, when the first bilateral consultations envisioned in the 2009 Memorandum of Political Cooperation between the two countries will be held”.
