Advice on “viaggiare sicuri” website is intended to protect the public, says Farnesina

The Foreign Ministry has just received different, indeed diametrically opposed, reports from tourism operators and citizens complaining that the Ministry had pointed out, or failed to point out, situations of potential risk in Egypt.

The information and advice provided by the Italian Foreign Ministry through the www.viaggiaresicuri.it website are clearly, and solely, intended to safeguard public security and safety. They are drawn up with great care and timeliness so that, on the basis of the various specialist sources and constant liaison with our principal partners, critical situations in certain areas of the world can be noted and publicised. The assessments made are carefully considered by the various offices and bodies concerned and are in no way subject to any form of political discretion exerted by the Minister.

These assessments are wholly independent of any commercial or otherprivate arrangements concerning Italian citizens’ trips abroad. The Foreign Ministry is in no way, and cannot be held to be, responsible for decisions made by groups or individuals with respect to the risks reported on the site.
