The Development Cooperation Steering Committee, chaired by Deputy Minister Lapo Pistelli, today approved funding for 57 NGO projects in development countries, for a total of €23 million.
The projects are to be carried out in 25 of the Cooperation’s priority countries (among them, Afghanistan, Albania, Bolivia, Ethiopia, Sudan and the Palestinian Territories) and in crucial sectors that include healthcare, education, food safety, farming, environment, human rights and governance. The projects were selected for the first time through a competitive procedure designed in consultation with sector NGOs and were awarded through a European-style call for tenders.
Today’s Steering Committee session also approved an additional 21 initiatives, for a final total of €52 million.
