ONU: Bonino, bene elezione Italia a ECOSOC

“I’m very pleased”. This was Foreign Minister Emma Bonino’s comment on hearing from New York that the United Nations General Assembly had elected Italy to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for 2014-15. “The election is a recognition by the international community of Italy’s work in supporting economic growth and sustainable and social development – factors that we view as vital elements of stability in relations between states”.

At the election, Italy won the highest number of votes of all candidate countries representing their regional groups, with 184 votes out of 186.

“Our success also testifies to the consensus we have built up through Italy’s commitment in various UN bodies, of which ECOSOC has a key role in economic, social and environmental matters. I would like to thank our Permanent Representation in New York and all the officials here at the Farnesina and throughout our network whose efforts have helped us achieve this excellent result”.
