“Some of the announcements from New Delhi today on judiciary procedure in the case of our navy servicemen have left me speechless and indignant”, asserted Minister Bonino.
“The eventual request for application of the SUA Act as a basis for the charges against the marines, if this should be confirmed”, stated the head of Italian diplomacy, “will be firmly contested by the Italian defence. The government considers this unexpected reference disturbing and will insist in every possible forum on the absolute and inadmissible incongruence of such a decision, not least in consideration of the recommendations of the Indian Supreme Court itself”.
“Our commitment to bring Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone home”, the minister concluded, “is stronger than ever”.
