Minister for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini expressed “deep satisfaction” at the news of the appointment of Simonetta Di Pippo as Director of United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA).
Di Pippo, an astrophysicist of international renown, boasts a long and brilliant career distinguished by numerous high-level posts in the Italian and European Space Agencies (ASI and ESA). Former head of the European Space Policy Observatory at ASI Brussels and president and co-founder of Women in Aerospace Europe (WIA-E), she was also ESA Director of Human Spaceflight from 2008 to 2011, while also special advisor to the Director General of ESA.
“This is a significant international acknowledgement of Italian excellence in science”, Minister Mogherini commented.
