Bruxelles, Giro a conferenza sociale Euro-Latinoamericana

“On behalf of Italy, I wish to express my satisfaction over the results of the exchange programme on Latin American and European Union social policies (EUROsociAL)”. This was Under-Secretary Mario Giro’s comment at the conference, also attended by his counterparts from Spain, Germany and France, on the results of the EUROsociAL programme in Brussels.

“The European Union must provide a response to the crisis being experienced by its citizens by implementing financially sustainable social policies that ensure cohesion and inclusion and reduce inequalities. In the last 10 years, Latin America has been a laboratory for innovative social policies from which Europe can benefit. I hope that the EUROsociAL initiative continues”, concluded the Under-Secretary.

EUROsociAL fosters exchanges of successful social policies between Latin America and the European Union. Thanks to the programme, the Italian Social Insurance Institute (INPS) has shared its expertise with Brazil on welfare issues while Italian initiatives on prisoner rehabilitation have also been shared. Italian legislation on inclusion for people with disabilities has been chosen as a model by a number of Central American countries.
