Traveler safety: Valensise chairs meeting of main tour operators and travel agencies

Secretary General Michele Valensise chaired a meeting at the foreign ministry in Rome with the main associations of tour operators and travel agencies (ASTOI Confindustria Viaggi, Fiavet, Federviaggio, Assoviaggi) on the topic of security for travellers abroad and the implications for the tourism sector. They addressed the responsibilities associated with the choice by many Italian citizens to travel to areas considered immune to political/military crisis and terrorist threats up until recently.

As is well known, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs publishes travel advisories on its website (www.viaggiaresicuri.it), which report data collected from specialised sources in collaboration with our international partners. Problematic areas are therefore highlighted so as to allow for the greatest autonomy and responsibility in deciding where to travel, and the recommendations provided are independent of any commercial or other interest of a private nature.

The main sectors associations agreed on the advisability of users’ greater involvement and participation in making travel decisions in consideration of the changing international situation and of the increasingly global nature of risk.
