COMITES elections: Under-Secretary Giro hails government’s act of duty

Under-Secretary Mario Giro expressed deep satisfaction for the government’s decision to call COMITES elections to be held within December. “This was an act of duty”, Giro said, “a personal commitment by Minister Mogherini to put an end to an unpleasant situation that this government inherited and has now resolved”. The elections will be held by mail, but the Consulates will send out electoral packets to those who request them. “On Minister Mogherini’s instructions, my staff of the Directorate General for Italians Abroad and I personally have maintained constant contact with the parliament members elected abroad and with the CGIE in order to seek a solution”, he underscored, adding that, “it is now up to the electorate, and our hopes are that many will register to vote”.
