According to Minister for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini, the announced intention to launch a political dialogue in Libya is an opportunity not to be missed to achieve a shared political solution. “The launch of dialogue in Libya, agreed on thanks to effective mediation by the United Nations that we also supported, could finally pave the way to a shared and inclusive political solution”, she said.
“We are only at the beginning of a gradual process of stabilisation that all parties concerned are duty-bound to complete, for the good of the Libyan people, with the support of the international community”, she continued.
“Italy has been closely following the situation over these months and supporting peace efforts”, she pointed out, “and for that reason we are among the few countries that have kept an embassy operational despite the difficulties, and we intend to continue to stand by the Libyan people”.
