Gentiloni speaks with foreign ministers of principal EU partners, Ukraine and Serbia

Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Paolo Gentiloni had an exchange of views today with the foreign ministers of Spain, France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland on topics ranging from the stabilisation of the Mediterranean basin, and particularly Libya, to the crisis in the Middle East, migration flows and recent developments in Ukraine.

The discussions confirmed a broad consensus on the principal international events and the hope to be able to arrange bilateral meetings in the near future.

Gentiloni then spoke with the foreign ministers of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin and Serbia Ivica Dacic.

Klimkin thanked Gentiloni for his stance on the “elections” in Donbass, and shared the minister’s initial analysis of the situation.

In his conversation with the Serbian minister, Gentiloni confirmed Italy’s full support for that country’s European integration, and reiterated the proposal of a trilateral meeting with Albania, whose foreign minister Dadic had willingly accepted earlier in the day.
