Humanitarian supplies organised by Italian Development Cooperation arrived today, 26 May 2015, at the Ibrahim Khali/Zakho border crossing between Turkey and Iraq. The shipment left Italy from the United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD) at Brindisi and is headed for Dohuk, in the Autonomous Region of Iraqi Kurdistan. It will then be distributed to the Kurdish-Syrian population of the Rojava Hassaké enclave.
The aid consignment, worth about 90,000 euro, consists of medical equipment and basic medicines to supply a population of 20,000 for 3 months. It also includes material to provide initial treatment for patients suffering trauma.
In Dohuk, the shipment will be handed over to “Un Ponte Per…”, a non-governmental organisation, which will transport them to the Governorate of Hassaké in Syria. There, the supplies will be distributed in refugee camps and public hospitals in collaboration with local humanitarian organisations.
