Come previsto dalla procedura arbitrale avviata il 26 giugno scorso, l’Italia ha chiesto oggi al Tribunale Internazionale del Diritto del Mare di Amburgo che, nel contesto e fino alla conclusione del procedimento arbitrale, il Fuciliere di Marina Massimiliano Latorre possa restare in Italia, il Fuciliere di Marina Salvatore Girone possa farvi rientro e vengano sospese le procedure della giurisdizione a carico dei Fucilieri in India.

L’iniziativa odierna è dettata dalla necessità di tutelare i diritti dei Fucilieri di Marina Latorre e Girone e dell’Italia durante lo svolgimento del procedimento arbitrale avviato il 26 giugno. Come da prassi,  il percorso che porterà il Tribunale di Amburgo ad esprimersi sulle istanze italiane dovrebbe completarsi entro alcune settimane.

As provided by the arbitration procedures launched on 26 June, Italy today requested of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea for Marine Massimiliano Latorre to remain in Italy and for Marine Salvatore Girone to return to Italy for the duration of the arbitration process, and that the jurisdictional procedures against them in India be suspended.

Today’s request stems from the need to safeguard the rights of the two marines and of Italy during the arbitration procedures launched on 26 June. According to praxis, the process leading to the Hamburg Tribunal’s ruling on the Italians’ request should be completed within a few weeks.
