Libya: Minister Gentiloni speaks by phone with colleague Mohamed Al Dairy

Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation received a telephone call today from his Libyan counterpart Mohamed Al Dairy. Their discussion included condemnation for the recent terrorist attacks by Daesh-affiliated groups in the city of Sirte, the serious humanitarian situation in the country and the need for the negotiations for the constitution of a national unity government mediated by UN envoy Bernardino Leòn to be concluded as rapidly as possible.

“The tragic developments in the city of Sirte”, Gentiloni said, “once again underscore the urgency for the Libyan parties to strike an accord founded on the text signed in Morocco on 12 July”.

“The agreement on a national unity government remains the only possibility”, Gentiloni stated, “for confronting extremist violence and the steady deterioration of the country’s humanitarian and economic situation with the support of the international community”.
