In reaction to the worsening migration tragedy of recent days, the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of Italy, Paolo Gentiloni, Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier and France, Laurent Fabius have drafted a broad-based document calling for a strong European response to the crisis.
The highly detailed document underscores how, in the light of the limitations and inadequacies of the 25-year-old European asylum law, it is necessary to review its content and application. The three ministers also insisted on the urgency of achieving the goal of equal distribution of the refugees across Europe.
The document has been sent to the High Representative of the European Union, Federica Mogherini, with the request that the topic be discussed at the informal meeting of European Union Foreign Ministers in Luxembourg on 4-5 September.
