Foreign Ministry Pledges 1.4 million euros for Emergency Humanitarian Aid in Libya

Italian Development Cooperation Department has planned a 1.4 million euro humanitarian aid package for Libya to support primary emergency interventions by international organisations operating in the Country. The package will focus on activities to protect the more vulnerable communities and prevent irregular migration along the Mediterranean route, as well as on the provision of healthcare to the population.

In particular, a 500 thousand euro grant will be allocated to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to provide first aid, also through the Libyan Red Crescent, to internally displaced persons and civilians affected by the conflict. A 450 thousand euro contribution has been earmarked for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to support activities carried out under the Humanitarian Response Plan. Lastly, another 450,000 euros will be delivered to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to support the distribution of relief supplies and hygiene kits to internally displaced persons and interventions aimed at repatriating migrants to their countries of origin.

These initiatives, to be implemented with the Italian Development Cooperation Agency, are a tangible act of Italy’s solidarity with the Libyan people at a particularly delicate moment in the Country’s political stabilization process.
