The Italian Government has taken note of the decision made today by the Indian Supreme Court to adjourn to 13 April before expressing its opinion on the case of marine Massimiliano Latorre, while waiting for the Government in New Delhi to state its position.
The Italian Government confirms that it is in agreement with the Order issued by the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea on 24 August 2015, which led to the suspension of all internal judicial proceedings by India and Italy. Based on this Order, the Italian Government believes that any further decision by the Indian Supreme Court regarding Italian marine Latorre be precluded and that he can therefore remain in Italy for the duration of the international arbitration proceedings initiated by the Government on 26 June 2015.
