The Under-Secretary of Foreign Affairs visited Algeria yesterday and today.
Mr Amendola held bilateral meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra, the Minister for Religious Affairs Mohamed Aissa, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy.
In his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Italian government representative discussed tools and initiatives for strengthening bilateral cooperation on economic matters. During the talks, the parties discussed the main regional crises, focusing specifically on the situation in Libya and Syria.
They also reviewed cooperation on security and counter-terrorism, with a view to further developing initiatives already launched and with the aim of improving the effectiveness of common tools for combating and preventing radicalisation. This last aspect was discussed specifically with the Minister for Religious Affairs who, among other things, outlined Algerian best practice in this area.
Discussions with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy reviewed issues relating to bilateral energy cooperation. Finally, the Algerian side illustrated the plans to develop renewable energy sources in which the country intends to invest, particularly in partnership with foreign operators.
