The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Benedetto Della Vedova, will visit Dhaka on 10 November to meet the authorities of Bangladesh and the Italian community, four months after the violent terrorist attack in which 22 civilians were killed, including 9 Italian citizens. Undersecretary Della Vedova received the families of the victims at the Farnesina yesterday.
In Bangladesh, he will meet with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Shahriar Alam and the Minister of Home Affairs, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. The meetings will discuss bilateral relations in all sectors: economic, commercial, migration, the fight against terrorism and the relations between Bangladesh and the European Union. Attention will also be focused on the follow-up of the police and judicial investigations of the attack of 1 July and of the one that cost the life of Italian aid worker Cesare Tavella in September 2015.
Mr Della Vedova will also visit the Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan, the site of the terrorist attack of 1 July, where he will lay a wreath of flowers to commemorate the victims. The Undersecretary will subsequently meet the Italians living in Dhaka and the representatives of Italian companies operating in Bangladesh.
