EU Council: Alfano, full support to the priorities of Malta’s EU Presidency

“As of today Malta has taken on the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union. For the next six months, Malta will be at the helm of the Council, focusing on several crucial sectors such as migration policies, security, the Brexit, the single market, the EU’s Neighbourhood Policy and maritime affairs,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano.”Italy intends to support with determination,” added Alfano, “the action and goals that Malta has set for its Presidency and confirms its full support to the priorities that Malta intends to pursue.””In the six months that lie ahead,” Minister Alfano pointed out, “we will work to relaunch the European project, also by organizing an event in March to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Rome Treaty.”Looking at the new global scenarios, Alfano concluded: “Strengthening cooperation between States is key to achieving security and prosperity. And the EU –  still a model to look up to for the added value it has been capable of generating in so many sectors of the daily lives of European citizens – can and must improve.”
