On arrival in the Tunisian capital, Minister Alfano will be welcomed by the Italian Ambassador in Tunis, Raimondo De Cardona, who will accompany him, together with the rest of the delegation, to the Presidency of the Republic for a meeting with president Beji Caid Essebsi. Statements are expected to be made to the press at the end of the meeting,

The programme will continue with a transfer to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to meet his counterpart, Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui. A press point will take place at the end of the meeting. A working lunch will follow. Minister Alfano will then meet Tunisia’s Prime Minister, Youssef Chahed, and continue to the Bardo Museum to attend a commemoration ceremony for the victims of the terrorist attack of 18 March 2015.

During his meetings, Alfano will discuss the main bilateral and international issues, particularly the common fight against terrorism, the Libyan situation, and the management of migration flows. The visit to Tunis will also be an opportunity to confirm the common views held by Italy and Tunisia and the Italian government’s support for the Tunisian institutions and people, which represent the only example of success of the “Arab Spring”.

Minister Alfano will also visit the residence of Ambassador De Cardona, where he will meet members of the Italian community in Tunis.
