The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Vincenzo Amendola, had his second day of meetings in the United States. After yesterday’s meetings at the United Nations building and after voting in favour of the resolution on the protection of critical infrastructure against terrorist attacks at the UNSC, today Mr Amendola is in Washington for bilateral talks with members of the U.S. Congress. Mr Amendola met with Lou Barletta, of the House Homeland Security Committee, with Tom Marino, and with David Cicilline of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. Later, at the Department of State, he first met with the Acting Assistant Secretary for North Africa and the Middle East, Stuart Jones, and then with Brett McGurk, the Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter Daesh. Lastly, Mr Amendola met with Derek Harvey, senior director for Middle East policies on the National Security Council. The talks focused on the cooperation between Italy and the United States in Libya, which has made it possible to achieve important results both in the country’s stabilisation process and in the fight against Daesh. In general, discussions highlighted the importance that the international community closely cooperate in fighting terrorism in North Africa and in the Middle East.
